Marlar pockets $10,088 Iron-Man payday at Ponderosa Speedway

Mike Marlar increased his 2022-win total to 10 on Saturday night with a $10,888 triumph at Kentucky’s Ponderosa Speedway.

The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series triumph came in his Delk Equipment Sales / Tri-Rivers Enterprises No. 157 Can-Am Auto Salvage / Longhorn Chassis / Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model.

“Last week’s action started at Atomic Speedway on Wednesday night, and if it could go wrong it did. Mechanical issues bit us in both the heat race and the B-Main and resulted in us missing the feature. We bounced back with a charge to sixth on Thursday in the Hillbilly Hundred at Tyler County (Speedway). With the rest of the Lucas Oil (Late Model Dirt Series) weekend getting washed out we came back to Ponderosa Speedway and finished fourth on Friday and got the win on Saturday,” Marlar said. “Hopefully we’ve got the monkey off our back heading into the upcoming weekend.”

On Wednesday afternoon, Mike Marlar was one of 29 Late Models entered at Atomic Speedway (Chillicothe, Ohio) for the seventh stop of the 2022 Castrol FloRacing Night in America miniseries.

After breaking a driveshaft while running second in his heat race, Marlar ran into more issues in his B-Main that brought an early end to his night.

Mike is fourth in the latest Castrol FloRacing Night in America point standings.

In a field of 40 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries on Thursday at Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, W. Va.) for the Hillbilly Hundred, Mike edged his way into the $30,000-to-win A-Main with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Advancing through the field nine spots in the 100-lap affair, Marlar raced to a sixth-place finish.

On Friday, Marlar traveled to Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Ky.) for the opening round of a two-day event with Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series. With a heat race victory placing him on the second row for the feature, Mike dropped one spot in the 40-lapper to finish fourth.

For the Big Daddy Fall Classic on Saturday, Mike secured his spot into the main event with a heat win. Keeping the field at bay as he weaved through lapped traffic, Marlar cruised to his 10th win of the season and second career Iron-Man Series triumph.

He pocketed a $10,088 payday ahead of Tanner English, Camaron Marlar, Josh Rice, and Scott Bloomquist.

Marlar will look to regain ground lost last week in Castrol FloRacing Night in America competition, when he returns to action with the tour this Thursday at Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, N.C.) in another $22,022-to-win affair.
