Mike Marlar scores podium finish in DIRTcar Nationals prelim at Volusia
To kick off six consecutive nights of racing, Mike Marlar joined 50 Late Models at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) on Monday afternoon for the 54th annual Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals.
After finishing 10th on Monday and 11th on Tuesday, Marlar timed in third-fastest in his qualifying group on Wednesday with the 61-car field divided into three groups. Chasing a $5,000 preliminary payday in his feature, Mike rolled to a consistent third-place outing. He joined race-winner Jonathan Davenport and runner-up Devin Moran on the podium.
With Thursday through Saturday shifting to World of Outlaws (WoO) Late Model Series sanctioning, Marlar laid down the third-fastest time in his 29-car group on Thursday before placing first in his heat. Mike chased leader Garrett Alberson early in the 35-lapper before fading to 14th at the finish.
Following a lap nine exit on Friday, Marlar wrapped up the 54th DIRTcar Nationals on Saturday with a 17th-place outing in the $20,000-to-win finale.
