Mike Marlar grabs USA Nationals opener at Cedar Lake

Mike Marlar notched a $6,000 victory on Thursday night with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series during the opening round of the USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway.

The win was his eighth of the season aboard his Delk Equipment Sales / Tri-Rivers Enterprises No. 157 Can-Am Auto Salvage / Longhorn Chassis / Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model.

“We capitalized on opportunity on Thursday night and got the win. Then, we buried ourselves a bit for Saturday’s show but still was able to pass a bunch of cars for a good finish,” Marlar said. “We weren’t bad at Gondik (Law Speedway) on Monday and Tuesday but just was missing a little something.

“We’re excited to head to Florence (Speedway) this week, and hopefully when it’s all said and done, we’ll have our first North-South 100 title.”

On Thursday, Mike Marlar squared off against the World of Outlaws CASE Late Model Series contingent at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wis.) as the 35th annual USA Nationals weekend kicked off with a $6,000-to-win prelim.

With a heat race victory placing him on the front row for the feature, Marlar took possession of the lead on the 11th circuit and led the remainder of the 30-lapper to capture his eighth win of the season and 11th career with the World of Outlaws.

He finished 2.284 seconds ahead of Brent Larson with Tanner English, Brandon Sheppard, and Dennis Erb Jr. completing the Top-5 finishers.

For a pair of heat races on Friday afternoon, Mike followed up a fifth-place finish in the first round with a fifth-to-fourth run in his second heat. With passing points setting the grid for Saturday’s main event, Marlar transferred into a B-Main for another shot at the $50,000-to-win USA 100.

Starting on the front row, Marlar scored a second-place finish behind Brandon Overton, locking him into the 20th-starting position for the A-Main.

Coming one spot shy of a Top-5 finish, Mike advanced through the field 14 spots in the 100-lapper to register an impressive sixth-place performance.
