Sixth-place finish in Mountain Moonshine Classic prelim

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) brought Mike Marlar and 41 competitors to the Volunteer State over the weekend to compete in the Mountain Moonshine Classic at Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.).

With a $10,000-to-win prelim on Friday kicking off the doubleheader event, Mike followed up the sixth-fastest qualifying lap in his 21-car group with third-place finish in his heat race. Charging from the sixth row in the opener, Marlar climbed six positions in the 40-lap affair to register a sixth-place finish.

Back at the newly reshaped 3/8-mile oval on Saturday, Marlar edged his way into the Mountain Moonshine Classic finale with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat. With a $50,000 winner’s payday up for grabs, Mike rolled to a 14th-place finish in the 60-lapper.

Marlar remains in fifth in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
